The Backyard was started by Gill Oxenham in 1997 from a domestic kitchen and today it is an established executive catering business situated in Illovo, Johannesburg. 

Gill is trained as a Cordon Bleu Chef and has many years of catering experience. She has travelled extensively gathering fine culinary knowledge from literally all over the world. From 1994 for a period of three years, she learnt a great deal about the trade and furthered her expertise from her mentor Sally Williams.

Whether you are planning a corporate event, a romantic wedding, a formal gathering, an informal get together, an intimate affair, or even a simple picnic, The Backyard will successfully turn any idea into a reality.

The ten members of staff work as a close efficient team and their creativity and flair will ensure your event is exceptional. We will bring unique magic to the party completng every last detail.

The Backyard is committed to service excellence and our outstanding attention to detail and quality will surpass all your expectations. We will hire out all cutlery, crockery and linen for your event, as well as organise music, entertainment and décor if needed.
